The Gotham City Music Collective choir is a community vocal ensemble. Our performances feature classical and contemporary choral arrangements, and opportunities for you to perform in small-group or solo showcases. Our mission is simple: to make music for the love of it, to have fun doing it, and to share that love and joy with others. Sing with us! And come watch our amazing artists!
The Gotham City Music Collective’s goal is to foster a growing collection of mutually supportive music-making groups. We aim to connect amateur musicians and students with professional musicians and educators. History of Gotham City Music Collective
GCMC was founded in 2021 by Mary Goebel and Laurel Stinson, who continue to serve as our artistic directors, in response to the overwhelming need to make communal music with friends and neighbors, as we began to move towards a post-pandemic world.
In December 2021, we held our first performance as part of the Harlem Street Festival, featuring holiday caroling, joyful solos, and good vibes. We have been expanding our ensemble ever since! Drop into a rehearsal and learn how you can be part of GCMC’s next act.

Meet the Artistic Directors

As co-founder and resident conducting virtuoso, Mary Goebel serves as the Chair of the Board for GCMC. Mary first gathered the Golden Lions Choral singers at her apartment for holiday caroling at a street festival in Harlem. Floored by the clamor for community music making, she has since led GCMC to music-making excellence, performing regularly throughout NYC.

Director Laurel Stinson co-founded GCMC in 2021 and serves as Vice Chair of the Board. A passionate music educator and multi-instrumentalist, Laurel can be found instructing at workshops, our rehearsals, and Success Academy. If you’re not lucky enough to attend her music classes, you can catch her performing throughout the city with the Funkrust Brass Band.

Victor Martinez made his directorial debut with the GCMC voices in our Winter 2023 Showcase! Performance triple-threat Victor instructs students of all ages in theater, choral music, and instrumentation. Tirelessly organizing for youth and community music programs, Victor can be found teaching at the School of Performing Arts in the Bronx.
